Mr. Aquilina has been a consultant paediatric neurosurgeon for six years. He is lead neurosurgeon for neuro-oncology at Great Ormond Street Hospital and runs the selective dorsal rhizotomy service there and at the Portland Hospital in London.


His neurosurgical training included a one year clinical fellowship in paediatric neurosurgery, and, particularly, surgery related to brain tumours, at St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in the United States, as well as original research in hydrocephalus in premature babies. He also spent time at the Center for Cerebral Palsy in St Louis, Missouri, where he learnt the single-level selective dorsal rhizotomy procedure. He was the first neurosurgeon to undertake this procedure in the UK.


His primary clinical and research interests include surgery for brain tumours in children, selective dorsal rhizotomy in cerebral palsy, the management of hydrocephalus, the use of cerebrospinal fluid dynamics studies in children with complex hydrocephalus and neuro-endoscopy
